🔥 Midlife Crisis
Tom Brady is acting way too divorced, Bryson and Rory’s beef is alive and well.

Happy Friday. In a game against the Diamondbacks this week, Las Vegas Athletics shortstop Joshua Kuroda-Grauer endured one of the worst injuries you’ll ever see on a baseball field: A foul tip to the balls. Given that he ruptured his testicle on the play and had to get surgery the next day, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say he probably wasn’t wearing a cup. The craziest part was that Kuroda-Grauer managed to stay in the game and hit a single in the same at-bat.
There’s a real argument to be made that this is one of the most impressive athletic achievements ever. Winning a Super Bowl is hard. Hitting a 96mph fastball with a freshly ruptured testicle is next to impossible.
In today’s letter:
TB12 is trying to fight Logan Paul
The Red Sox go on a heater
Cam Skattebo needs to be put in bubble wrap

🥊 Tom Brady is reaching unthinkable levels of divorced dad. Tom had it all. Seven Super Bowls, all the money you could ask for, and most importantly, people’s respect. Ever since his wife left him for her jujitsu instructor (tough break), he’s been determined to ruin that reputation with cheap gimmicks, unhealthy amounts of chin filler, shitty crypto coins, and dating girls half his age. This weekend showed the worst of it.
Brady slapped Logan Paul on stage at Fanatics Fest in what was clearly a manufactured moment. Videos then got posted of him flipping off Logan Paul at the World Cup Finals. A day later, it leaks that Brady is in talks to join the WWE to fight Logan Paul… shocker.
Someone needs to sit Tom down, delete his plastic surgeon's number from his phone, and remind him that he doesn’t need to act like a 25-year-old influencer to stay relevant. Giselle’s not coming back, but you’re still on primetime television every Sunday. You’ll be ok.
⚾️ The Red Sox just rattled off a 15-game winning streak to get back in the playoff hunt. It wasn’t long ago that Boston’s postseason chances were dead in the water, but after going three weeks without losing a game, the Sox are now sitting comfortably in a Wild Card spot. The 15-game heater is tied for the franchise record set in 1946 (back when owners were still trading players for boxes of cigars).
⛳️ The Bryson DeChambeau-Rory McIlroy beef is alive and well. Bryson nearly quit the British Open over a 2-stroke penalty that he received for improving his lie (you can be the judge if it was intentional), stirring up a lot of controversy and some interesting post-round comments from his old friend Rory.
Among some other choice words, McIlroy said, “I’m not particularly fond of Bryson. I think a lot of it is performative. I think a lot of it’s for attention.”
It didn’t help Bryson’s case that he reportedly tried to call President Trump to help him get the penalty overruled (an odd move given it was a golf tournament in England).
🏆 Funny enough, neither of those guys were in the hunt on Sunday: It was a dark horse that came out on top at The Open. New Zealand’s Ryan Fox sank a walk-off putt to clinch his first-ever PGA win (he stood over the putt for less than 10 seconds). Fox was T-52 after Friday’s round, making it the largest 36-hole comeback to win a major in history.
Most people didn’t know a lot (or anything) about Fox before Sunday, but I think he won over a lot of fans by playing the entire round like he had a 6:00pm dinner reservation that he couldn’t miss. To put into perspective just how quickly Fox plays, here’s a side-by-side of how many drives he can hit before Patrick Cantlay tees off.
🩻 Cam Skattebo nearly re-injured his surgically repaired ankle doing a backflip. I’m pretty sure he gave every member of the Giants’ organization a heart attack when this video got posted. The Giants need to have it written into Skattebo’s next contract that he has to spend the entire offseason locked in his house, hibernating like a bear until football season is back.
📊 Here’s a stat that doesn’t sound real: Before their win this week, the Angels had lost 106 straight games when they were trailing in the 9th inning, the longest streak in the MLB by a mile. I guess it's the Angels, so we can’t really be that surprised.
💰 The NFL made more money last year than the NBA, NHL, and MLB combined. Is $14.5 billion a lot? There’s a reason the NFL is the only league that owns a day of the week.
⚽️ Spain dominated the World Cup final. Despite going to extra time, this wasn’t a close contest. Argentina didn’t have a single shot on goal in the first 90 minutes of the match, the first team to do so in 60 years. Spain ultimately outshot Argentina 20 - 2, finally scoring a goal in extra time to ice it.
Now, back to not talking about soccer for another four years.
🤕 Twins’ starter Joe Ryan gave up six home runs in his start this week. Talk about a tough day at the office. Ryan gave up the most homers allowed in a start in over 125 years.

Alright, that’s enough for one Friday.
