A wild trip to the World Cup finals and a new Home Run Derby champ is crowned

Happy Friday. A black bear stumbled onto a local golf course in British Columbia this week and ended one player’s round a little early. While the group was on the green (presumably missing putts), the bear snuck up behind the cart and stole an entire set of clubs, dragging the whole bag back to the woods with him.

I’m pretty sure the only guy who would try to fight the bear for his club's back would be John Daly. He’d be a gentleman and offer the bear a cigarette afterwards.

In today’s letter:

  • Argentina keeps up the late-game heroics

  • Jordan Walker rips Philly fans’ hearts out

  • The U.S. tennis players unlock a new bachelor party game

āš½ļø Argentina has ridden a string of ridiculous comebacks to the World Cup finals. The defending champions sent England packing in the semi-finals after another dramatic comeback. Trailing 1-0 in the 85th minute, Argentina scored two goals in six and a half minutes to punch their ticket to the finals, where they’ll face off against Spain. Some are calling it the battle of the afternoon nappers.

  • Here’s a stat that sounds fake: In all four of their win-or-go-home games, Argentina never led after 90 minutes of play. They won every single one of those matches either in stoppage time or extra time. Absurd.

āš¾ļø Cody Bellinger won the All-Star Game MVP, the first Yankee to win the award since his wife’s ex-boyfriend (and current teammate) Giancarlo Stanton. That’s gotta be a fun chat in the clubhouse.

  • Before the All-Star break, Bryce Harper had a great idea for the Home Run Derby that MLB didn’t take him up on: Let the hitters use aluminum bats! Sure, they might kill a handful of fans in the bleachers, but we’d definitely see a ball hit 600ft.

  • Jordan Walker made more than his entire 2026 salary from winning the Home Run Derby. The St. Louis Cardinals took down hometown hero Kyle Schwarber to win the derby, homering on his last six swings to win it.

šŸˆ Joe Flacco’s own kid was caught on a hot mic saying that he benched his dad in Fantasy Football. I know you’re not really supposed to disown a kid, but this seems like grounds for it. Plus, Flacco’s got like four or five more to fall back on.

šŸŽ¤ Mike Tyson didn’t know who Shohei Ohtani was (he actually thought he was a woman). The boxing legend announced Ohtani’s award at the ESPYs and was caught on a hot mic asking Jake Paul, ā€œShohei’s a guy?ā€ Mike might’ve taken a few too many hits to the head to be presenting awards on national TV.

šŸ“‹ That classic Key & Peele Pro Bowl sketch is coming to life in College football this year. We’ve got four (very real) names to throw at you for this season:

  • Prayer Young-Blackgoat (Linebacker, ASU)

  • Moh Bility (Cornerback, Rice)

  • Dude Person (Safety, Central Arkansas)

These all rock, but nothing will ever touch De'Coldest Toevadoit Crawford

šŸŽ¾ All of the top American tennis players were playing bottle roulette at Tommy Paul’s wedding. This looks like one of those classic games you’d play as a kid that was super fun until someone got sent to the hospital with a freak injury. Or in this case, with five professional tennis players, ended someone's season right before the U.S. Open.

  • It’s pretty cool to see that, regardless of how rich you are, all that dudes really need to have a good time is a stupid idea and a ball.

🄊 Former Miami Heat teammates Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro reportedly got into a fight in Vegas this week. Given that Tyler Herro didn’t end up with his face rearranged, I’m sure it was one of those fake NBA tough-guy fights. Still, you’d have to be some kind of lunatic to try to fight Bam (although Tyler Herro tattooing the Milwaukee Brewers logo on his stomach does suggest he’s prone to poor impulse decisions).

ā›³ļø Rory McIlroy drove the green on a 435-yard hole at The Open. McIlory, who earlier this week screamed about how bad he is at golf, took the short way to birdie on this hole. Unfortunately, this drive didn’t bail Rory out from a rough opening round — he’s T85 going into today.

šŸ’° Gary Trent Jr. is so bad at basketball that his 4-year deal with the Bucks triggered a league investigation. The NBA took one look at Trent’s $64 million deal and knew something was fishy. Tough break for Gary.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers posted an unhinged hype video featuring an old man getting flipped 10 feet in the air by a Bison. They, of course, tried to delete the video after facing backlash, but the internet never forgets.

Shoutout to @supacrypto for nailing an 8-leg UFC parlay this week. A perfect slate isn’t easy (good thing you didn’t bet on McGregor to go the distance).

Alright, that’s enough for one Friday.
